3 Tips for a Happy, Healthy Holiday Season
I know the month of December is halfway over already, but I think it’s worth taking a few minutes to check in with yourself and see how you are feeling. While life has been crazy and time has been flying by, have you been taking care of yourself? I shared these tips for healthy holidays last week with my pals at Raleigh Group Fitness, but thought it was worth sharing here too.
Keep these things in mind the next few weeks and beyond. Nothing crazy, just some sensible things you can do to help yourself truly savor this time of year.
1. Get in movement where you can. It can be tough to get outside for exercise in the cold, dark winter months, so consider sprinkling it in in unexpected places. Try mid-day walking meetings instead of sitting in an office if it’s possible (and the sun is shining). A little extra Vitamin D boost never hurts! Another option is to meet friends for a run/walk date instead of a coffee date. I do this weekly with a friend and I look forward to it every time!
2. Stick to your normal eating schedule. Just because you have a party tonight doesn’t mean you should starve yourself all day to “save” those calories. All that will happen is you being hangry and then binging on the food at the party. Eat your normal meals and snacks, focus on nutrient dense foods and your body will thank you.
3. Let yourself enjoy some treats! This time of year is special for so many reasons, and holiday foods and drinks are a part of that. Don’t restrict yourself from the things you truly love and savor, just try to actually enjoy them to make it worthwhile.
