Welcome to Perennial Nutrition! This site is a place to share ideas, recipes, and tips to live a healthier, more fulfilling life. My name is Autumn Ehsaei, and I am a registered dietitian/nutritionist living in Raleigh, NC. I absolutely love my profession, and am so thankful to have a job where I can help people learn to love and have a healthy, lasting relationship with food. To me, food is so much more than calories, numbers and “good or bad.” It’s funny; as a dietitian you find that people are extremely hesitant to eat around you. I’m constantly being viewed as the “food police” and feel as though my presence triggers anxiousness around others when it comes to mealtime. If you know me however, you know that is the farthest thing from the truth. I’m usually so focused on what my body needs and what I want to eat, that I really am not thinking about what anyone else’s choices are. I have always told people that you don’t become a dietitian by NOT liking food. We love, love, love food! Believe me, when you get a group of RD’s together, it is usually ALL about good food and enjoying it to the fullest.
There is room for everything in a healthy diet, and my goal is to help people explore their own personal drivers behind why they eat what they eat, understand the basics of nutrition, and optimize it for their own personal needs. I think that learning to appreciate what foods can do for you, but also understanding that they don’t always have to serve a purpose, is the key to finding health and balance. It shouldn’t be so hard, right? So, why is it? Let’s explore together ways to make food less scary, less intimidating, and instead more exciting. Let’s find a way to look forward to eating, rather than dreading it. Let’s move away from the “what can’t I eat” mentality, and instead focus on “what can I eat.” Trust me, that shift is huge.
